Breast Reduction (Female)
Breast reduction surgery, or reduction mammoplasty, is a transformative procedure for women suffering from the physical and emotional burden of excessively large breasts. Overly large breasts can cause chronic neck, back, and shoulder pain; bra strap grooving; skin rashes beneath the breast fold; difficulty exercising; and significant self-consciousness. At Dr Amit Aesthetics in Aligarh, Dr. Amit Agrawal performs breast reduction surgery to alleviate these symptoms while creating a smaller, lighter, and more proportionate breast shape.

Overview
Breast reduction surgery, or reduction mammoplasty, is a transformative procedure for women suffering from the physical and emotional burden of excessively large breasts. Overly large breasts can cause chronic neck, back, and shoulder pain; bra strap grooving; skin rashes beneath the breast fold; difficulty exercising; and significant self-consciousness. At Dr Amit Aesthetics in Aligarh, Dr. Amit Agrawal performs breast reduction surgery to alleviate these symptoms while creating a smaller, lighter, and more proportionate breast shape.
The primary indications for breast reduction include chronic musculoskeletal pain related to breast weight, skin irritation and infections in the inframammary fold, limitations in physical activity, difficulty finding well-fitting clothing, and psychological distress. Dr. Agrawal employs the vertical scar mammoplasty technique (also known as the "lollipop" technique) whenever possible, which results in a shorter scar compared to the traditional anchor pattern. This technique involves an incision around the areola and a vertical incision from the areola to the breast crease, allowing for precise removal of excess breast tissue, fat, and skin while reshaping the remaining breast into a more youthful, uplifted contour.
The surgery also repositions the nipple-areola complex to a more aesthetically appropriate height on the breast mound. In most cases, the nipple remains attached to its blood supply and nerve connections throughout the procedure, preserving sensation and the ability to breastfeed. Breast reduction consistently ranks among the highest patient-satisfaction procedures in all of plastic surgery, with the vast majority of patients reporting significant relief from symptoms and improved quality of life.

Recovery & aftercare
Patients typically experience moderate soreness for the first few days, well-managed with medication. Surgical drains, if placed, are removed within 1–3 days. Sutures are removed at 1–2 weeks. A supportive surgical bra must be worn continuously for 4–6 weeks. Most patients return to work within 1–2 weeks and can resume exercise at 4–6 weeks. The breasts will continue to settle and soften over 3–6 months as swelling resolves and tissues adjust to their new shape. Scars mature and fade significantly over 6–12 months.
